How do I enrol in my electives?

Depending on your course structure, you may be able to choose elective subjects - check your course in the University Handbook.
Use the University Handbook to find detailed information about subjects, including subject codes.

Once you choose the elective subjects you want to study, the next step is to add them to your study plan:

  1. Log in to StudentOnLine

  1. Click on the My Study tile and navigate to Manage My Course in the left-hand menu. If you have an elective subject to add, it will show as having a ‘Selection Required’ in your Current Course Structure.

  1. Click the Select button on the right-hand side, where you would like to add an elective.

  1. Search for your available subject from the list. To search the options, you can scroll down the list or type in the search field.

  1. Click Add to plan then Confirm.

Please note, you are not enrolled in the subject yet.

You can now enrol in the electives you’ve chosen:

  1. Click the Plan and Enrol button, available on the Manage My Course or Academic History pages at the top left-hand corner.

  1. On the Plan and Enrol page you will see an 'Unscheduled' column with core and/or elective subjects. Unscheduled refers to subjects that need to be assigned to a study period. Please note that this is different to timetabling. If you want to see the subject requirements and when it is available, you can select Click for details. This will provide further information about the subject and display subject availabilities.

  1. Select the Schedule button on the subject to plan the study period.

  1. Select the Year, Study Period and Attendance Mode. The Study Period Date will populate automatically. Click the OK button. The scheduled subjects now appear in a separate column with the status of NOT ENROLLED.
You can also simply drag and drop the subject from the unscheduled column to your preferred subject (if the subject is running in that study period).

  2. Select the Enrol button at the top of the Study Period column; you will be presented with a summary of the subjects you are about to enrol in. Select the Confirm button to confirm your enrolment.

  3. Your subjects will then show as 'ENROLLED' in the Study Period column.

NOTE: You will be unable to enrol in subjects if you still have outstanding pre-enrolment tasks.

To change an elective subject:

  1. In your Study Plan, find the option line for the elective you want to change

  1. Click on 'Remove’ then replace the elective with another selection from the list.

This process is demonstrated in the Manage My Course and the Schedule and Enrol video tutorials.

If you are unable to enrol in an elective you will need to submit an enrolment assistance request as outlined in the table on the Change Enrolment Page

Graduate research candidates
You will be automatically enrolled by the Graduate Research School (GRS) into any elective coursework subjects outlined in your offer letter – you cannot self enrol. If you’d like to request to add or change your coursework subjects, complete and submit the Add or remove subjects form on the GRS Forms and resources page.
